Stress-corrosion defects frequently cause accidents with pipelines. Metal loss defects are characterized by relatively smooth edges, while stress-corrosion cracking is represented by unopened cracks with a depth of 5-20% of the pipe wall thickness on its outer surface. As a rule, the cracks are oriented along the pipe axis.
In-line diagnostics with the magnetic flaw detector with transverse magnetization detects dangerous defects of stress-corrosion cracking and external corrosion of pipes, and as a result reduces operational costs. Moreover, high sensitivity makes it possible to detect and size such defects as: metal loss, longitudinal cracks and anomalies of longitudinal welds, geometry defects (including additional defects).
